Our Story
Welcome to Calvary Woodworks.
We are Greg and Kelly Donelson, a husband-and-wife team based in Maryland. Together, we combine craftsmanship and creativity to share handcrafted woodturned pieces that celebrate the beauty and character of natural wood.
Gregory is the maker behind every piece you see here. Inspired by family who worked with wood, he developed a passion for woodturning and the unique process of transforming a simple block of wood into something beautiful and useful. From bowls and keepsake dishes to bottle stoppers and tealight candle holders, each creation is individually handcrafted in our home workshop.
One of the things Greg enjoys most about woodturning is working with the wood is the gradual process where wood reveals its character. Working with the grain rather than against it yields its transformational character through its grain patterns, color variations, and natural features. Rather than hiding these qualities, he embraces them, allowing the wood itself to help guide the finished design. The result is a collection of one-of-a-kind pieces—no two are ever exactly alike.
How we chose our name: Calvary Woodworks reflects the faith that guides our family and our work. We believe in creating thoughtfully, stewarding resources responsibly, and honoring the beauty found in God's creation. We source wood from local and domestic suppliers whenever possible and strive to use sustainable practices in our workshop.
While Greg is busy at the lathe, Kelly works behind the scenes, helping with photography, website management, marketing, and the many details involved in running a small business. Together, we share a vision of offering meaningful handcrafted pieces that bring warmth, beauty, and connection into the homes of others.
